Introducing Marie

Marie Citrus Side

I am so excited about my new design! I love Rococo fashions and I’m thrilled with how this dress turned out. I developed this skirt shape yesterday so I don’t yet have a tutorial video for how to make this skirt.

The skirt is made using the same method as making the flared skirt only it uses two back pieces instead of one. Keeping the front straight and centered the back pieces are gathered and compressed to the back of the doll, taped in place, and the belt covers some of the tape and helps hold things in place. Careful adjustment is needed to get the back just right on the skirt. I’ll be adding a tutorial video for how to make this outfit soon but in the mean time you can look at the pictures.

Ellowyne’s new dress and her doll

Heidi Ellowyne With Doll 2I have several of the Ellowyne dolls by Wilde Imagination and I really enjoy them. They are taller and wider than Barbie dolls so my outfits don’t work for these dolls without some adjustments.

To make this dress for my Ellowyne, I cut along the top line of the top piece and left extra white along the edges so it will wrap all the way around the doll. I left the extra at the bottom as that adds stability when placing the top on the doll.

I used the front piece of the flared skirt and taped two back pieces to the edges of the front. Then I wrapped the skirt around the doll and taped the overlap in the back.

The belt piece wasn’t long enough to wrap around the doll’s waist so I took a strap piece, cut in half, and taped the edges to each side of the belt piece. I taped on the back of the belt so the tape wouldn’t show up. Then I wrapped the belt around the doll’s waist and taped in place. I used the other piece for a wrap around collar. Things do look a little messy in the back but the front looks good:)

My dolls like to have their own dolls. I like to dress them in matching outfits. To make Ellowyne’s Doll’s Dress I wrapped part of a strap around the waist of a little doll and taped in place. I used half of a prepared small circle for the circle skirt. Then I took another strap piece and cut out a triangle shaped insert and wrapped it around her shoulders and taped in place in the back.

Heidi Ellowyne with doll 1

To make these dresses I used pieces from the Heidi collection.

Recently I got three of the background scenes from American Girl. They are really fun for photography and can work for more dolls than just 18″ if you get your angles right.  I got the snow scene, the park scene, and this scene which is the party room.

I had a lot of fun today taking pictures with the new backgrounds.

An 18″ doll dress

One of my 18″ American Girl dolls wanted a new dress… I had an idea that I could possibly put together a dress using pieces from my outfits so I thought I would give it a try. She picked out what dress she wanted and I came up with this.

I used five backs of the flared skirt with train, two straight skirts, a small circle and four tops to make this dress.

The top is made from two straight skirt pieces, two top pieces for the shoulder straps, and the tip of a small circle to add additional detail. I taped everything as shown with the tape on the plain side of the paper.

Then I wrapped the top around the doll and taped the straight skirt pieces together, it was a really snug fit. I folded the top pieces over and taped them to the back of the straight skirt.

I used five pieces of the flared skirt with train, just the back piece with the train, and taped them together as shown in the picture. I wrapped the skirt around the doll’s waist, overlapped the edges in the back and taped it in place.

I used two top pieces for sleeves. I wrapped one on each side around the dolls arm, slid it up so it was beneath the shoulder top pieces and secured with tape. For a spur of the moment first time making a Printable Doll Clothes dress for an American Girl doll, I think it came out really cute:)

Another variation of this dress would be to skip the sleeves and cut the shoulder top pieces into rectangles by cutting off the bottom half. This would be a more modern formal party dress look for the dress.

Update

I’ve since come up with another American Girl dress combination. You can see how to make this dress here.
